In 2008–2009, an initiative of the Pôle Images Haute-Normandie brought photographer Thibaut Cuisset to work in the Pays de Bray region. He immersed himself in this rural landscape as he endeavoured to capture and decipher its features. Various stays enabled him to highlight the transformations at play in the landscape through light, colour and cultivation. The diptych D 1 Roncherolles-en-Bray is a prime, impressive example. Thibaut Cuisset took two photographs of the same field in the same position, a few minutes apart.

In the first shot, the field is bathed in light. In the second, a cloud has cast a shadow over the scene. Cuisset was not seeking the picturesque, but focused on a modest spot in the rural landscape. The commonplace motif of the land forces the viewer to focus fully on the subtle play of light, which the artist has captured brilliantly. Rooted in the rural landscape (Normandy at that) and using light as its primary subject, the work of Thibaut Cuisset resonates fully with the museum's Impressionist pieces and provides a fine contemporary extension to its collection.
